Nason Davis Ltd was established in 1989 as Timber Agents and Brokers, concentrating mainly in Softwoods business, from Northern Europe and West Coast Canada.
Also at that time quite significant volumes of landed stocks were sold from one Importer to another on a Brokerage basis.
In 1991 Nason Davis pioneered custom cut joinery grades and became the leading UK Agents for Lodgepole Pine from British Columbia, representing Tolko Industries to compete with traditional Scandinavian sizes and grading. The Tolko product became the market leader and benchmark for others to follow.
1993 saw us entering the Japanese market for the first time. We represented Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, German, Danish and Polish mills in Japan. The business was all concentrated with one Japanese Trading House and rapidly became very successful.
1995 the ‘ The Crown’ public house in Little Abington, Cambridge was purchased from the Greene King Brewery and a lengthy conversion to bespoke offices commenced. Timber from AB Geijer & Soner (now Sodra), Brandval Sag (now part of Bergene Holm AS) C.F.Berg at Morlunda, Jobo Tra (now part of Rorviks) and Hansen & Detlefsen (now Holzwerke Bullinger GmbH&Co.KG) have all been incorporated into the building to good effect.
In 2002 we opened our own office in Japan having had an unparalleled experience in the Japanese market since 1993. The office is situated in Ikeburukyo a suburb of Tokyo and is staffed by Japanese nationals. Here we also have a flat in true traditional Japanese style, complete with Tatami room and Shoji screens! The flat serves as a base for our UK staff when visiting.
2002 saw another monumental change for the Company in the registration of Nason Davis Eesti Oü in Estonia having traded successfully there for the previous 6 years or so.
We are never afraid to try new ideas and markets!
The Latin inscription on the Office wall Sundial is ‘NIHIL EST CONSTANS PRAETER MUTATIO’ ‘ Nothing is constant except change’ couldn’t be more true! It also reflects the Company's need for flexibility in an interdependent ever-changing market.
